Coke while pregnant
The day after Etowah County authorities announced a crackdown on women who endanger their unborn children, a Gadsden woman has been arrested for allegedly using cocaine during her pregnancy. 33-year-old Jennifer Leigh Wheat was being held in the Etowah County Detention Center on 10-thousand dollars bond.

A cold case in Calhoun County may have been solved. The sheriff’s office arrested 32-year-old Michael William Kiser on Monday and charged him with capital murder. Kiser is accused in the shooting death of Donald Cameron. The 47-year-old Cameron had been missing for several days before his body was found in his home in Ohatchee the day after Christmas 2009.

Decreasing populations
Folks living in a couple of local counties might notice it’s a bit less crowded these days. Estimates from the US Census show that Calhoun County’s population was down by more than 12-hundred people between 2010 and 2012. Etowah County also saw a drop, but by less than 50. On the other hand, Cherokee County’s population went up slightly.
