Prescribed burns

Two large prescribed burns are planned for the Little River Canyon National Preserve near Fort Payne. Depending on the weather, the National Park Service is hoping to conduct the first burn tomorrow on nearly 400 acres south of Alabama Highway 35, directly across from the Canyon Center, and west of Highway 176 to Mushroom Rock. A second burn is likely to take place in April. Personnel at the Preserve will be assisted by the Wild Land Fires unit of the Great Smoky Mountain National Park.
