In addition to recording hit songs like ‘It Goes Like This,’ Thomas Rhett is a talented and successful songwriter. His successes include Jason Aldean‘s ’1994,’ Lee Brice‘s ‘Parking Lot Party’ and one other song that caused some minor marital discord when he let another artist cut it.
“My wife says ‘Round Here’ (by Florida Georgia Line) is her favorite song that I’ve ever written,” Rhett tells USA Today. “She always said, I don’t care if that song sits in a pile forever, please don’t let anybody else cut that song.”
Rodney Clawson and Chris Tompkins co-wrote ‘Round Here’ with Rhett, and they decided to let Florida Georgia Line have it. So, he had to call his wife of 10 months and break the news. “I don’t know if she cried, but she was close to it,” Rhett shares. “To this day, she’s like, ‘I can’t believe you gave away that song.’”
Rhett is currently on tour with Aldean. In the USA Today article, he also talks about growing up as country hitmaker Rhett Akins’ son, which meant opportunities to rub elbows with stars like Reba McEntire and Blake Shelton. The ‘Mine Would Be You’ singer once even helped him with an English project!
