Huntsville water treatment plant would sprout in Marshall Co.

A Huntsville Utilities request has received city council approval.

This request concerns building a new multimillion-dollar water treatment plant in Marshall County instead of Madison County.

WAFF-TV reports one resident saying work to make this happen has gone on for years, but the Marshall County Commission says it had no idea.

Huntsville Utlities would put this plan on property that joins Guntersville Dam Road off Highway 431.

Utilities officials say the plan would provide current customers and future growth in the southeastern corner of Madison County.

Four miles of pipe would run to bring water from the lake side of the Tenneessee River at the dam.

The TVA says Huntsville Utilities has an outflow permit and a tentative easement permit to run lines along the road, but a permanent easement would not come along until the project finishes.

Utilities officials say construction could start this spring and take three years.

The project could cost $84 million.
