Gov. Ivey is appointing attorney William B. Sellers to the Alabama Supreme Court. Sellers will fill the associate justice seat previously held by Lyn Stuart. Stuart became chief justice after Roy Moore was suspended. The nine judges on the state high-court are all Republicans.

Drug round up early Wednesday in Etowah County — 58 arrested. They called it “Operation Clean Sweep.” About 90 others still to be arrested on a total of 275 charges.

The U.S. Supreme Court has temporarily put an execution on hold in Alabama. The court stayed the execution of Tommy Arthur, “pending further order” from the justices. Arthur was scheduled to be executed last evening.

Huntsville has passed Mobile as Alabama’s third-largest city. New population estimates released Thursday by the Census Bureau show that Huntsville has grown to just over 193,000 people. That surpasses Mobile by about 175 people. Birmingham is the largest with 212,157 people.
